Titanium material

Titanium Grade 1

Equivalent: TA1 | BT1-0 | TP270

Commercial pure titanium with more than 99% of titanium elements. Grade 1 titanium has high strength, low density, excellent corrosion resistance, and toughness, with good plasticity, making it easy to process, form, and weld.

Titanium material

Titanium Grade 2

Equivalent: TA2 | TP340

As commercial pure titanium, Grade 2 titanium is slightly stronger than Grade 1 titanium. It has good corrosion resistance, good weldability, strength, ductility, and formability.

Titanium material

Titanium Grade 5

Equivalent: TC4 | Ti-6Al-4V | BT6 | TAP6400

Grade 5 is currently the most widely used titanium alloy. It has properties such as low density, high strength, good thermal stability, and excellent weldability

Advantages of Titanium Machining

Titanium is a high-strength-to-weight ratio manufacturing material, it has excellent corrosion resistance and other unique properties and is used across a wide range of industries. Below are some advantages of titanium.

Light Weight

Titanium’s atomic structure, with a hexagonal close-packed crystal lattice, provides exceptional strength. Titanium is as strong as many steels but about 40% lighter, its density of 4.5 g/cm³ is relatively low compared to steel (around 7.8 g/cm³).

Corrosion Resistance

Titanium forms a stable, protective oxide layer (TiO₂) on its surface when exposed to oxygen. This passive layer is highly adherent and self-healing, preventing further oxidation or chemical attack, even in aggressive environments like saltwater or acids.

Biocompatibility

Titanium’s oxide layer is chemically inert and does not trigger immune responses in the body. Its surface properties also promote osseointegration, where bone cells bond directly to the metal.

Versatility

Titanium’s ability to form solid solutions with elements like aluminum or vanadium stems from its flexible metallurgical properties. Alloying adjusts its microstructure, enhancing traits like tensile strength or corrosion resistance.

Fatigue Resistance

The combination of titanium’s strong crystal structure and elasticity allows it to absorb and distribute stress effectively, reducing crack propagation under cyclic loading compared to other metals.

High Temperature Resistance

Titanium’s strong metallic bonds and high melting point (around 1,668°C) allow it to maintain structural integrity under heat. Its low thermal expansion also minimizes warping.
