EDM Machining Services
EDM Machining Service at Getzshape
At Getzshape, we specialize in Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) to deliver the high-precision parts that regular machines just can’t handle. We primarily use EDM, which introduces a controlled electrical spark from a thin wire to melt and cut through the material, letting us form complicated shapes and tiny details with tight tolerance, even in hard metals.
EDM Machining Materials
EDM works with conductive materials and alloys, including tough superalloys and hardened steels. We offer the following, but not limited to, these materials.
Aluminum
Aluminum offers lightweight yet high strength, excellent machinability, corrosion resistance, and durability. It is ideal for various applications like aerospace and automotive parts.
Copper
Copper is an excellent EDM electrode material due to its high electrical and thermal conductivity, which ensures efficient sparking, good heat dissipation, and the ability to achieve fine surface finishes.
Steel
Steel offers high strength, durability, and versatility. It’s suitable for structural components, tools, and machinery parts. It requires treatment to enhance corrosion resistance.
Titanium
Titanium provides a high strength-to-weight ratio and biocompatibility. It is ideal for aerospace applications and medical implants that require both durability and lightweight properties.

How Does EDM Work?
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is based on the electro-erosion phenomenon that occurs during the pulsed spark discharge between the tool electrode and the workpiece (the positive and negative electrodes). During the discharge process, the metal on the surfaces of the electrodes and the workpiece is melted, vaporized, and thrown off by the high temperature, thereby achieving material removal.
- Discharge Gap: A certain discharge gap (typically a few micrometers to a few hundred micrometers) must be maintained between the tool electrode and the workpiece. If the gap is too large or too small, effective spark discharge cannot be generated.
- Pulsed Power Supply: The spark discharge must be an instantaneous, pulsed discharge, with a discharge time generally ranging from 10 −7 to 10 −3 seconds, to avoid surface burns caused by continuous arcing.
- Dielectric Fluid: The discharge process must take place in a liquid medium with certain insulation properties (such as kerosene, saponified liquid, or deionized water). The working fluid (dielectric) helps to generate the pulsed spark discharge, removes the electro-erosion products, and cools the surfaces of the electrode and the workpiece.
Advantages of EDM Machining
Complex Geometries and Precision
It produces intricate and complex shapes, cavities that are difficult or impossible to create with traditional methods, such as deep ribs, small-radius internal corners, and high-aspect-ratio holes.
Hard Material Available
It can easily cut materials too hard for traditional tools, like hardened tool steels, tungsten carbide, and exotic alloys, which eliminates the need to soften or re-harden the workpiece.
Smooth Surface Finish
The EDM process removes material through electrical erosion, which does not create burrs While dependent on the parameters used, EDM can produce very fine and smooth surface finishes.
Industrial Applications
Our Manufacturing solutions have been qualified by worldwide customers from different industries. We have been offering sheet metal fabricated parts for various industries, which include the following list and more.
Automative
Facilitate the production of high-precision gears and other critical components that demand tight tolerances.
